TRANSAXLE LOAD RATINGS
Mendeola’s gearbox rating system, although wrong,
has been based on a horsepower figure. Due to the fact that
the majority of our end users relate better to that “standard”
than torque. Torque however is the true mechanical method
for measuring rotational force. But unlike pure road racing
formats with tighter based platforms off-road vehicles cannot
use torque as a definitive formula for overall vehicle ratings.
Due to the number of variables associated with off-roading,
to include: vehicle weight, tire size, engine torque, and
the most important factor of all, driver skill level! The
dynamic forces and loads impaired during off-road activities
far exceed absolutely another form of motorsport. After
35 years in this business I know this to be so.
The baseline ratings presented here reflect current vehicle
functionality and usage. They are also calculated with a
driver of above average skill level. Also, in the past 5
to 6 years vehicle performance figures have increased by
light years. Building a car with more transaxle than you
think you need is a paramount consideration.
